Come to Brewster, Washington, a small town on the confluence of the Columbia, Okanogan, and Methow Rivers, for a perfect summer getaway. Enjoy world-class fishing, hiking, camping, and local foods.

One of the highlights of the region is the world-class fishing on the Brewster Pool of the Columbia River, where you can catch walleye and super size bass, plus Chinook and sockeye in season. Pateros, Brewster, Bridgeport, and the Bridgeport State Park all have paved launches and transient moorage for your boat. There are also numerous launches on the Methow and Okanogan Rivers. Keep in mind that if you fish on the Colville Reservation, the north shore from the confluence with the Okanogan up (east), you will need both a tribal fishing permit and a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife permit. If you need fishing supplies, make sure to stop at Mauk Fishing Stuff and say that you saw them on Northwest Portal.

If you want to try to win a prize, come out to Brewster in early August for the Annual Brewster King Salmon derby with a top prize of $2000.

If walking or hiking is more your thing, you can walk or bike the Army Corps of Engineers paved North Shore Trail that runs from Daroga State Park through the shrub steppe to Chief Joseph Dam. This 2.6-mile-long trail has parking, bathrooms, interpretive signs, and even a playground and yurt. It offers spectacular views of the river and dam.

After a day on the water, head into town and pick from our four great Mexican places, or drive up to Lone Point Cellars on a bluff overlooking the river. Use the Northwest Portal to plan your adventure, and go to the Lines on Wines podcast to hear an interview with the winemakers. (Click on the cellar on the map to get a link to the specific podcast.)
